In my preparation for parenthood, I’ve read books; spoken with trusted family, friends and counselors; and generally tried to utilize as many resources as possible to inform me about what to expect and how to hopefully be the best father possible. These resources have all been great, and after reading them I thought, so many people have been confident and helpful enough to share their experiences for me to learn from, perhaps there will be something in my story that is helpful for others as well.
This blog is not necessarily intended to serve as a source of “parenting advice”; as a first time parent, I know there’s a lot that I don’t know. Instead, this site is an accurate recounting of my experience entering and navigating fatherhood, while trying to be successful in all other aspects of my life.
My guiding principles for everything that I will share:
1. Be truthful – everything I write will be my real life, the highs and the lows.
2. Be respectful – because this site is essentially about my family, everything I post will be discussed with my wife prior to posting to make sure she is comfortable with the aspects of our personal lives that are being made public.
3. Be humble – I am not solely responsible for everything I have in my life, and I do not want to pretend that I’m a parenting expert, so I will frequently reference other’s influence on my life and/or the specific situations I discuss.
4. Be relatable – I believe people crave connection, so I try to provide that opportunity for those who want it, usually through humor and a willingness to listen. While this journey will start with me sharing, I’m hopeful that it can grow into something bigger and more communal.
